Story LedStories play a vital role in the growth and development of children and are a great way to introduce new words and ideas into a child’s language. Each of these sessions begin and end with a story to introduce and re-enforce the ideas and concepts from the story. In between the child can participate in a number of related arts activities to create their own memories and understanding of the story. At the end of the session I incorporate the artwork that the group has created into the second reading of the story, to further reinforce the words and ideologies involved.
Theme Based Interactive arts sessions based on a theme such as under the sea, transport, the jungle, out of space, pirates, the farm etc. Theme based learning is great for developing the child's creativity and imagination. These sessions encourage children to think independently and develop their own ideas and worlds. The sessions begin with a short introduction to the theme, including some pictures and props. I then briefly explain the various activities set out around the room e.g. bubble wrap printing, salt dough sculptures, group collage, sensory area for babies. Then the child and carer / parent explore and engage with what's going on in the space at their own pace.
Explore and DiscoverSensory arts sessions focus on developing the child's understanding of the physical world that surrounds them. Activities include mark making, texture play, wind play, moulding, building and exploration of colour, heat, light, smell, taste etc. These sessions are great for developing fine motor skills, coordination and concentration.
