Noah’s Ark

Date: Nov 2018 - Feb 2019

Group: Paediatric in patients at Barnet Hospital

Description: Noah’s Ark is a small school class room in the paediatrics department at Barnet Hospital. The teachers in the class room wanted some tips and techniques on fun and therapeutic arts activities that they could run themselves with their student patients. I visited the school on.a weekly basis for 12 week to run workshops that the staff could watch and learn from. I find that young people often really enjoy customising things and incorporating their personality and identity into what they create. Making something that they can take away and keep, something which has a purpose also seems to spark the drive to take pride in their work.

The sessions had to be accessible to a wide range of ages as the patients on the ward were between aged 5-17 and would often be working alongside one another.

I designed the sessions with these things in mind and we did things like textile wall hangings, illustration mugs, printing onto note book covers and making mobile phone cases from felt. The project went really well and the teachers in the school were able to repeat the sessions after i’d finished working with them.

Feedback:

Well done Rhian- this is such a high standard of delivery! I can definitely see why they have asked for another project. - Alev Yilmaz (Project Manager at CF)
