Description: Northgate School is based in Edgware Community Hospital and specialises in the education of students aged 11-18 suffering from mental health challenges. I was employed by Community Focus to run an outreach project at Northgate, visiting the school once weekly during term time to deliver creative workshops with a focus towards creative self expression.
I introduced the students to different tools and techniques, much of these involve textile arts in some way as the school are keen for the students to have some exposure to this subject. For each session I set tasks which enabled the students to feel a sense of achievement (most of these can be completed in the 2 hour session), such as image transfer, free-machine stitching, appliqué, silk painting, embroidery and marbling.
